Subliminal Valley’s storyline takes place between 2015 and 2017. The story stars Bob Dadood (“The Dude”), a highly successful Black entrepreneur hailing from Brooklyn who runs x23, an AI startup he launched while studying at MIT, and Subliminal Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital fund.
Bob documents his meteoric rise to the forefront of the tech scene and the internal struggle that comes with it in his personal diary—a powerful lyrical platform that draws on the cultural elements that shaped his life: urban music, spoken word, New York’s upbeat conversational style, MIT’s entrepreneurship culture and African-American Vernacular English, also called Ebonics— a combination of ‘ebony’ and ‘phonics’.
The word Ebonics was originally coined in 1973 by African American social psychologist Robert Williams who famously stated: “We need to define what we speak. We need to give a clear definition to our language”.
